    Jeremiah Project :: New Orleans

    In February 2010, we’re travelling to New Orleans to assist with reconstruction efforts. Applications are due by the end of October.

Event Details

Last year, a group of ten from the Anglican and Evangelical Lutheran churches travelled to New Orleans, Louisiana in order to learn from our partners in the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana. We spent time learning about issues as varied as racism, systemic injustice, house construction and deep community from many people who lived through the destruction brought by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

This spring, we’re planning on going again from February 13-20, 2010.

Throughout our time in New Orleans, our group will be matched with a work project in the disaster area, where we will help to rebuild homes, as New Orleanians continue to rebuild their lives. Our participation in the rebuilding program will be augmented by a chance to meet students from Tulane University, hearing the stories of folks who lived through the storm to tell their tale and to help others rebuild their lives.

Over the course of the week in Louisiana, we will take the time to ask questions about how we might continue to faithfully serve God and our neighbours when we return home.

If you’re interested in hearing more about the project, contact Andrew Stephens-Rennie (613.233.6271 x237) for more info. Applications are due October 30, 2009.
